Rabo bans usb-stick after loss of data

ELST - Rabobank Betuwe has decided to stop using USB sticks. Wednesday a  the data stick containing banking details of over three thousand investors ended up in the hands of  The Gelderlander.

An anonymous informant claimed to have found the stick on the street. The data should have never left the bank in accordance with the behavioral procedures. It probably happened because the stick with data was used for an internal presentation.

"We still need to investigate what exactly happened," says CEO Mark Hofland. "It is clear that this should never have happened. We were deeply embarressed and have learned our lessons for the future. Transactions can not be made with the details and I did not see immediately how fraud could be committed. But privacy belongs to the banking system. That makes this a very unpleasant case. " Despite the intense media coverage the bank claims they have not had many anxious reactions. The bank has sent a letter with an explanation and apology to all affected customers.
