Less then half companies encrypts data on laptops and USB-sticks, while 25% says to encrypt data frequently and 21% encrypts data sometimes. Encryption solutions are difficult to implement while employees experience it as awkward. If we may believe employees that in real life a lot less information is being encrypted. Sixteen percent states to encrypt data frequently, while fifteen percent sometimes encrypt data on usb and other portable information carriers. 

Security.NL executed an investigation together with Webwereld and NuZ.nl with over 2000 visitors of these websites, to discover security policies within their organisations. 
Dispite poor encryption solutions, no less then 82% of all employees are allowed to use personal USB-sticks and other information carrying solutions.Fifteen percent forbits the usage of these kind of data solutions of just disconnected USB ports in general. If it comes to company information, 18% of the employers allow personnel to do so. Most companies (36%) set up rules, while 22% does not have any rules. Twelve percent forbits employees to use personal USB-sticks, while 8% took acion in blocking unauthorised devices, of simply close USB usage in general. 

Officials are no exception
A lot of employees are sending sensitive data home trough personal email addresses, and that proves that companies have not a lot of influence. 45% admits to do so. Officials more often send information through personal webmail (57%) while employees do that less often. (43%) Further 31% says to be allowed to connect their personal laptop in the offices network.
